Designer

Arne Jacobsen at Deconet

Arne Jacobsen Arne Jacobsen is considered to be one of the most important Scandinavian architects and designers in post-war time. He is the legendary creator of several 20th Century furniture icons, including e.g. The "Egg" chair, The "Swan" chair and the "Ant" and "Seven series" chairs. Arne Jacobsen was one of the very early modernists in Danish architecture. He was trained in the neo classic school of the Academy of Art in Copenhagen in the 1920´s, but was early open to the international modern movement. His most important commission was the SAS royal Hotel in Copenhagen from 1958, for which also many of the mentioned furniture icons were designed. Jacobsen designed not only the building but also the interior, right down to the smallest details. Arne Jacobsen developed his own significant style and worked independantly from 1930 when he opened his own design office. He is the designer behind many modern classics ranging from furniture and lightning to textiles and cuttlery.

Maker

Fritz Hansen at Deconet

Fritz Hansen Fritz Hansen has manufactured design furniture since 1872. Their key focus has always been beautiful and original design in a supreme quality. Since the beginning of the 1930s Fritz Hansen has adhered to the philosophy: to manufacture beautiful furniture in top quality in an industrial production process. In 1915 the first Danish chair in steam bentwood was launched by Fritz Hansen. The chair was an immediate success, and in the next decades many pieces of functional furniture in steam bentwood left the factory. In the mid 1920's Fritz Hansen started a serious and productive teamwork with leading furniture designers. This kind of teamwork has characterized Fritz Hansen ever since. The cooperation with Arne Jacobsen began 1934 which resulted in the stackable chair the Ant (1952), a masterpiece in simplicity. The revolutionary design was followed by the even more praised chair Series 7 (1955). Later during the 1950s Fritz-Hansen began to produce world acclaimed furniture the Egg and the Swan from 1958, also designed by Arne Jacobsen. Other cooperation's resulted in the Chinese Chair No 1 (1944), by Hans Wagner and the super-elliptical tables from 1968 by Piet Hein which was designed as a complement to the Ant and the Series 7.
