Glenn of California and Pacific Iron at the forefront of a new California modernist design movement in the 1940s and the 1950s. The most significant impact on the G. of C. development had Milo Ray Baughman, Jr. He created The "California Modern" collection for Glenn of California in 1948, along with Greta Magnusson Grossman, using mainly walnut, iron and Formica, and put forth a distinctive Los Angeles style. Greta Magnusson Grossman was Swedish born architect and interior designer. She designed for a number of residences in Los Angeles and San Francisco during the 1940s and 1950s. Her furniture was characterized by the materials she used such as natural woods and woven or strung rope and cane seats.
